Letters of Loftin to his mother, Ann B. Bryan, at Uniontown, Ala., chiefly concerning civilian life in North Carolina during the Civil War, secession, rumors, refugees from New Bern, conscription, yellow fever, the battle of Kinston (Dec., 1862), depredations by Union soldiers, and the 63rd North Carolina Cavalry during the Gettysburg Campaign. There is a deed for the sale of slaves, 1834, and a settlement of slaves among family members.
